    2.6.08 HALF A POUND

Okay so weigh in #5, a half a pound down and yeah I’m going to count that.  (See Our Progress List.)  Admittedly not the best this past week in some food choices, 2 McDonalds cheeseburgers were the worst offenders.  The weekends tend to be the toughest.  My husband hasn’t become as controlled as I have in the choices so when we are together on the weekends for meals my choices are the best.  Note to self – work on this in the week ahead.  Which that should be challenging since my parents are coming into town.  Though both I parents lost a lot of weight when they retired so they actually are a good influence.  Lunch is always the hardest.  We are normally busy in the middle of the day and so I want to grab and go but I need to slow down and think about it more.

David lost 2 more pounds this week which is great.  From what I can see of what he leaves in the fridge is that he is working on portion control.  This for him is a big issue.  Yes, he is 6 feet tall but that doesn’t mean he needs to consume enough for 2 people.  It’s good to see him focusing on that.  May then we can focus on quality of the food.  I saw KFC boxes in the trash last night so I know what he had for lunch yesterday.  Believe me I’d love to have that but know it needs to be planned into the menu for the week.

As Jen, who was voted out last week said, it is a full time job to lose weight and as a working Mom and Wife that means I have meaning full time jobs.  But I am finding ways to make losing weight and getting strong a major priority.  That is way even a ½ pound this week is important to me.  It may be a baby step but it is in the right direction.

Doesn’t look like I’ll make my first short term goal, but that’s okay.  I know I'm heading the right direction.  I’m interested in if my parents notice any changes.  I’ll let you know.

Have a great and strong day.

1.28.08 Forward and Back, but okay

Okay, so yesterday wasn’t the greatest in terms of the food that I eat.  I think that is because I was tired all day.  At 1pm I felt like it should have been 4pm or so.  I did both a cardio and strengthen training session on Saturday, which was the 6th day in a row that I had worked out.  Since starting this Million Pound Match Up, I had only been working out 5 days in a row with 2 days off so the added day was new too.

SO, as a result yesterday was great, but in the past I would have eaten worse so I have to give myself credit for not total blowing the plan, just deviating a little.  But today I’m back on track and feeling good.

Although the scale may not be nice to me at tomorrow’s weigh in, my clothes were nice to me today.  I can see a difference in how they fit and my overall shape and proportion.

To work on meeting my short terms goals mentioned in last weeks blog, I want to up two of my workouts this week.  Either do a longer cardio or do both a cardio and strength on the same day.  I might have to go to bed the same time my son does to recover but I am willing to do that to get to my goals.

Oh yeah, thought of another goal, this one is 6 months from now.  The photo with me in the bathing suit is from my parents place in Maine.  I hope that when we go up in July that I will have to have purchased a new SMALLER bathing suit and maybe even a 2 piece, tank suit.  Can’t think of the last time my stomach saw the sun, I’ll have to buy 45spf to be safe.

Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s show to see the new twist and how it impacts the future.

    ‘til next time keep moving.

    1.24.08 Short Term Goals

It’s Thursday and I haven’t written yet.  Where has this week gone?  The Holiday on Monday and my son not feeling well Tuesday has made for an interesting week.  But I am thrilled with losing two pounds.  David stayed the same but that’s okay.  He knows he could be doing better and is taking steps to do so.  Sunday was a big football day so he was off to a party with lots of food.  The Superbowl will be interesting both in terms of  temptations and a divided house on who should win.  My parents live in Maine so I’m hoping that the Patriots go all the way an truly have a perfect season.  But I digress.

I can already see a difference in how my clothes fit and how different my face looks after losing 6 pounds. So to make sure I keep moving in this positive direction I’ve set some short term goals.

First my parents are coming in 2 ½ weeks.  I’d like to lose another 4 pounds by Feb. 8th.  That would be a total of 10 lbs of weight loss.  Since I’ve average 2 pounds a week over the last 3 I know I can do it.

The Second goal is to lose another 10 pounds by March 21st when I go see my cousin Kate in NJ.  That will be a total of 20 lbs which means the scale should read 190lbs and that will be a number I haven’t seen in several years.

So wish me luck as I work on these goals.  I’ll let you know how I’m doing and if I reach them.

I can’t help but smile these days I feel strong and proud.  I hope you do too.

    1.15.08 Moving on

Okay so as predicted my week 2 wasn't great.  But I didn't gain so that is great.   David lost 2lbs which is great.  He has been walking most days on a path by our house.  Since he works nights he can walk outside, he braved 35 degrees and snow showers today.

My pant legs are lose and baggy and I can see definition in areas that I didn't before.  I have started strength training more as part of my workout routine and I can already see the benefits.  Daivd bought me a Bowlfex our first Christmas we were married (on my request) and it is great to be using it again as something other than a clothes rack.

I can't wait to see what happens tonight.

Wish us luck in our week 3 and best  of luck to you.  keep it up.

    1.10.08 Week 2 Thoughts

I watched Tuesday night's BIGGEST LOSER COUPLES, it is just part of the routine of the week, I feel that  something is missing if I don't get to watch it.  It is definitely a motivation, an inspiration and a support tool to my efforts here at home.   Everyone had done so well in week 1 so I couldn;t wait to see week 2 results.

My heart sank a little each time the numbers  were so little and to see the disappointment of everyones faces.  I can understand it.  I know I have that same reaction when the scale and I don't agree.

Having seen Tuesday's show it has given me prespective in my week 2 ( weigh in Tuesday Mornings).  As long as I don't gain and hopefully loss 1 pound I'll be happy for my week 2.  I have been working through a cold this week but have maintained my worksouts but have given into some sweet comfort foods in the evenings when I'm feeling run down.  Last night I had two cupcakes, no frosting, that I had bought for my son.   Hopefully it won;t hurt the results on the scale, but I am back on the horse and find an alternative tonight of the comfort food need finds me.

Another thought this week is that now that I'm bringing lunch elveryday I am spending less money, which is reallyy great since we are still working to get back on our feet financially after my husband was laid off in August and has only been at his new job since the start of December.  So saving money is great especially since I will need to buy new clothes later this year when my current clothes become to big an baggy.

YEs, I'm thinking positively, I have realized that helps motivate me to keep on this journey of better health and new way of living.  I'm really looking at this as a new way to live and not a a deit.  It might take me more than a year to lose all the weight I want but each day is one step closer.   In the end it is not how long it takes me but that I get there.  I really think I have the mental tools I need to make this happen.  I have but other things lower on the proirity list and brought this one up to the top.

Wish me luck on MY week 2 weigh on the 15th.

Have a great day and keep smiling.

    On our way

Today, is the first Saturday of this new way of living.  We tend to be very relaxed and flexible with our weekends since the weekday is so structured.  I need to focus of creating an eating plan for the weekend.  One of my goals for this weekend is to workout each day and create an eating plan for the entire week ahead including next weekend.  That way I don't have to think about what I'm eating I'll know.

    Unexpected Things

OKay, so I RESISTED a tempetation earlier in the day yesterday but wasn't so strong later in the evening when I picked up my son from daycare.   He comes running up to me with two cookies, one for me and one for David.   I resisted at first but then a friend from Daycare asked if I could help watch kids while she went to the DMV.   My mind suddenly went - OH CHANGE IN PLANS, DON'T KNOW WHEN I'LL GET DINNERAND INTO MY MOUTH WENT THE COOKIE.  Only one of the two.

Then at the Mall, where the DMV Express is located, I got the kids 2 Auntie Annes Pretzel to share.  Good thing the kids were hurry so I only eat a small bite.

Once we got home I had a small dinner of eggs.   Watched my hokies get beat and resisted eating the second cookie that was for David.  I even made sure David took it work.  I know that sounds bad since he is my teammate  but I haven't quite told he I signed us up for this.   Guess I should do that soon.

What I've realized is that I need to a have tools and a "plan b" so I can make better decisions about food when UNEXPECTED THINGS happen.

    Resisted

Okay so I haven't loaded my picture or written my 300 words, but as I was sitting at my desk by boss offred me some cookies and I said no.  He insisted, but I still said NO.  He said " If you have one then you'll want another"  to that I said " YES"  He then returned with, "But I thought you were stronger than that"

To which I responded "I am strong I said No and resisted the tempation."

I felt good about that.  Its a baby step but I'm one step closer.
